Review: Gregory Baltoro 65

This pack was the first hightech backpacking backpack i've ever bought. I traditionally have gone with external frame backpacks or borrowed a friends when I was in a pinch. However this pack is truly astonishing.

This backpack is meant for traditional backpacking and with 65 liters you will easily be able to carry enough supplies for a week on the trail at least.

A few things that I love right off the bat

The rain cover is included with the backpack when you buy it. I do love Osprey packs however in the backpacking world the almost never come with a raincover which ends up costing you and extra $30 - $45.

The insides of the pack has a day pack that can be unhooked from the inside of the bag and used elsewhere. This is extremely useful when your camp if a few miles away from your water source. Instead of dropping you pack and carrying water bottles by hand to the source of water you can load them up in your day pack and be off! The daypack is also compatible for hydropacks. I currently use Osprey's 2 liter water bladder and it works fine in conjunction with the pack.

Accessibility

The Gregory Baltoro has a brain that flip up off the pack. This stores the rain cover and any other quick to access gear. The pack opens from the top, mid, and bottom. Making it ideal for packing large loads, or accessing isolated parts of your pack at a moments notice. There is a surprising amount of pockets (9 total) on this pack some large enough for cantines or small backpacking chairs. These are great again for accessing immediate supplies such as first aid or even beef jerky.

Technology

The Baltoro is great because it can support heavy loads with great comfort. Weighing in at just over five pounds I haven't found another pack that can beat the cushion of the Baltoro without being lighter. With 210-denier honeycomb the cushion is unbeatable.

The Baltoro also comes with two hip pockets on its hip belts. One made entirely of mesh and the other which is completely waterproof. This awesome if you can fit your electronics in it. I currently carry the Pixel 2 and unfortunately I am unable to make it fit in the pocket. Other than that the Baltoro has two water holsters as well. These operate fine, however are a little finicky to get bottles back into while moving.

This pack is tough and handles punishment well. With an internal aluminum frame and high-tenacity nylon the Baltoro doesn't seem to shy away from dirt or heavy loads.

All in all I highly recommend this pack in its entirety.
